Others’ Music

Somewhere around 2005 I stopped enjoying the American Top 40 playlist. I went on a musical exodus from the United States which continues to this day. I pop back stateside every once in a while, but for the most part I’m into the fusion of the world’s folk music with more contemporary genres.  The more of the following categories you can impose on a piece of music, the more I am likely to be interested in it, and the more likely you will find some of it here:

  • Eastern European
  • Spanish-Language
  • Politically-charged
  • Stringy
  • Brassy
  • Windy
  • Accordion-y

Gogol Bordello’s mix of gypsy folk and punk rock music facilitates a transition to appreciation of more traditional gypsy folk. In other words, Gogol Bordello blows your brain out the fucking gringosphere. But enough about them, I’ve blogged them to … Continue reading

Obras kumbres kontrakulturales

todos juntos

Algo se me rompió en el cerebro en el segundo año de la secundaria. Esta ruptura tuvo algo que ver con Gogol Bordello y un suministro amplísimo de ponchos psicodélicos. A partir de entonces, no he podido derivar ninguna satisfacción … Continue reading

Danish Dancetime: Video for Analogik’s ‘Gypsie Doodle’

Analogik, from Aarhus, Denmark, describe their music as a whimsical and very entertaining blend of polka, jazz, Balkan, sailor shows, tango, hip hop and electronic music. I could not agree more. The track from the video above is Analogik’s ‘Gypsie … Continue reading
